Meet Morgan

When I moved from Paris to rainy London, I found myself constantly thinking about my mother’s beautiful handmade umbrella - it had this charming, intricate duck handle that always stuck with me. At the time, I was looking for a new business idea, and I couldn’t help but notice how dull and disposable most umbrellas on the market felt. Everything was black, flimsy, and forgettable. I knew there had to be a better way, something more joyful, more sustainable, and made to last. 

After doing some research, I've discovered that 1 billion umbrellas are discarded worldwide and most of which are not recycled or even recyclable. I was shocked. It became clear that umbrellas had quietly become one of the many symbols of our global throwaway culture.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to challenge that mindset by creating umbrellas that are not only functional and long-lasting but also thoughtfully designed and sustainably made. 

I launched Original Duckhead in 2012 with a simple goal: to design joyful, high-quality umbrellas using innovative materials like recycled plastic, while partnering with ethical manufacturers who share our values. 

How are your umbrellas made?

Our umbrella canopies are crafted from rPET, a recycled fabric made from post-consumer waste and the umbrella handles are made from FSC certified sustainable solid birch wood. We recycle 9 plastic bottles per umbrella and 6 plastic bottles for each reusable bag. All of our products are produced in a family run business in China.

I'm based in London, where my team and I work together from our Clapham office.

Which is your favourite umbrella?

Our latest style of our duck umbrella, the Palma. It's playful and stylish at the same time.

What is your biggest achievement so far for Original Duckhead? 

One of our proudest achievements to date is becoming a certified B Corp - a milestone that reflects our deep commitment to sustainability, ethics, and positive impact.

Do you have anything planned for this year that you can share with us?

We’re excited to be expanding our collection with two new additions:The Duckling, our first children’s umbrella; andThe Mini Umbrella, a refinedand compact design, reimagined without the duck handle for ultimate portability.
